15 Dec 28 November – 6 December: Motorcycle Live 2015
Head off to the UK’s biggest motorcycle show featuring names from Harley Davidson to Watsonian Squire to Yamaha? Just try and stop us! We were very excited to attend Motorcycle Live, the UK’s biggest motorcycle show recently. This year’s event took place at the NEC, Birmingham, from the 28th November to the 6th December. We joined the thousands of biking fans thronging the event which was packed with racing VIPs, over 30 manufacturer stands, 16 interactive features and much more! The event is hugely popular, having run since 1981, when it was known as the International Motorcycle & Scooter Show. It took on its current name in 2010.
In the fast lane
There was a huge amount to take in as the world’s leading motorcycle manufacturers showcased their 2016 models in the UK for the first time and over 150 other exhibitors displayed everything from leathers, helmets and boots to dream adventure tours. Stands featured manufacturers from Apirilia through to Zontes, from retro to 21st century and from custom-made to sidecars!
As if that wasn’t enough, there were all kinds of incredible live features to take in, like the all-new FMX Live, presented by Arenacross. Described as “the craziest freestyle motocross show ever to hit Motorcycle Live”, this really was an incredible sight, featuring the world’s leading riders performing at their best, accompanied by lasers, lights and music! Of course, it wouldn’t have been Motorcycle Live without Charley Boorman and the other stars from Moto, TT, Superbikes and Off-Road like Lee Dunham, Tom Sykes, Danny Kent, Conor Cummins and John McGuinness!
Our Motorcycle Live 2015 highlights
We were delighted to be in attendance at an event which saw the UK launch of the new Yamaha XJR1300 with in-built Dainese D-Street air bag technology! Stunning! Another major highlight for us was seeing the restoration of the vehicle which has set the mould for every sportsbike since it was first made! We’re talking of course about the GSX-R750 rebuild on the Suzuki stand. As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of their iconic range of sportsbikes, Suzuki stripped the bike down and rebuilt it with refurbished and new components, restoring the machine to its former glory!
We loved watching yet another incredible biking name bring smiles to people’s faces at Motorcycle Live 2015. This was Jumpstart, Harley Davidson’s virtual test ride which allowed many happy biking aficionados to take to the virtual open road!
How could we not also love the best thing on three wheels at the show and beyond? This was Watsonian Squire’s newly launched ‘Wallace & Gromit’-style Vespa PX200 scooter mule and sidecar combo. “Cracking good job, Gromit!”, as Wallace would say!
Motorcycle Live 2015 totally exceeded our expectations. With so many big names and some major product launches all under one roof, the event celebrated the vibrant past of the industry whilst promising an exciting future for both motorcycle manufacturers and biking fans!
