Exciting times at New Designers Show 2016

In retail design, you’re only as strong as your freshest idea. That’s why we’re obsessed with keeping in touch with the latest innovation in design. So not surprisingly, we’re big fans of the New Designers Show, which rightfully calls itself “The UK’s most important exhibition for emerging design”.  You get to see no less than 3,000 of Britain’s newest design talents all showcased under one roof at the Business Design Centre in Islington! If there’s a better way to get hooked up with the most exciting and edgy in British design, then we can’t think of it. This is the event to get your hands on amazing new products and meet the future movers and shakers of the design world, with graduates from the country’s leading design schools, from Bath Spa University through to Weston College. Hey, our very own Laurence Webster, our Junior Development Designer was being championed and eulogised there only just last year!

What we particularly love about New Designers Show is the sheer variety of design on show.  Think of a type of design and you can pretty much bet that it’s covered there! Animation? Check. Fashion? Check. Gaming? Check. You get the idea…  But the event is just as exciting for businesses as it is for the exhibitors themselves. This is the place where companies can potentially find the next Ives or Ascher in Part 1 (Textiles, Jewellery, Ceramics) or the next Conran in Part 2 (Furniture, Product Design, Animation, Graphic Design, Digital Media)! New Design is a perfect example of the big names of today getting together with the big names of tomorrow.  Today’s big names heading to the show to be inspired, uplifted and just plain wowed were Absolut, Lego, John Lewis, Paper Rose Cards and Wilko.

With so much to see, it’s tough to narrow down our highlights of New Designers Show 2016, but we’ll give it a go… Stand-out exhibits were the new concept Bentley, the Savage Clothing Label and the ‘Tinker’ motorcycle frame. It’s this kind of talent and open design attitude which brings designs Joe Ferry and Bethan Gray back to the event every year. Bringing the latest and greatest in design together? New Design has got it spot on.
