29 Oct TFWA Conference in Cannes 2015
This Year we attended the Duty Free and Travel Retail Global Summit in its regular spectacular setting. The event is held in Cannes and is an annual event for the Duty Free and Travel Retail industry to meet for five days of ideas-sharing, business development and networking. It’s a great opportunity to network with existing customers as well as meet potential new clients. The Tax Free World Association set up this annual event as a stage for luxury brands operating in the travel retail channels and it was great to see so many exhibiting companies.
This valuable global business sector has been impacted by some external factors of late and the mood was that the business environment is marginally less stable than when we attended last year (Passenger traffic down thanks to EU financial strains, China stock market issues, ISIS, Russian foreign policy, the outbreak of Mers-CoV etc). However, the upside is that forecasts still predict a significant increase in international travel.
As a supplier with a great deal of experience dealing with brands and airport outlet management companies in the travel retail sector, we attended from Tuesday to Thursday with a diary full of meetings for all 3 days and most of our contacts believed their booths/stands to be equally busy as previous years. We came away with a number of exciting briefs from the show, so it was a tremendously positive few days.
The event was well represented and had a very positive vibe of optimism for a sector moving forward. While Cannes town centre was as shiny, glamorous and spectacular as ever you didn’t have to go too far to see the after effects of the serious flooding the area had had recently. Despite that, it didn’t stop Cannes as always working hard and playing hard.
